Crop Report: Goldrush Apples!

Thanks for checking in this week! Yes, we have started to harvest Goldrush and Winesap! Woohoo! It's been a beautiful fall week here at the orchard and we have been apple picking fools. Full list of apple varieties available in our Farm Market to follow.

If you don't know about Goldrush you've definitely been missing out! Goldrush is our most planted tree and a customer favorite. Goldrush will keep up to 7 months in storage and keep it's crispy crunch. They are also one of the few apples known to build flavor complexity in storage. We recommend Goldrush for EVERYTHING, (this crop report was written while munching on a Goldrush) they are just INCREDIBLE!

Last minute pumpkin pickers, there's still time to pick out the perfect Jack O' Lantern! Our u-pick patch is open seven days a week durning business hours. There are still a bunch to choose from. Make sure to check this activity off your fall bucket list! We have a special going on this weekend for u-pick pumpkins. If you head out to our u-pick patch pumpkins are $6 a piece and 4 for $20.

Saturday looks like it's going to be the perfect day to make your own Apple Butter. We really like this recipe from Halfbaked Harvest, link below. It's super simple and naturally sweetened, guilt free! She uses Honeycrisp apples, we recommend the following blends:

Extra smooth: Cortland and McIntosh

Slightly chunky: McIntosh and Jonagold

Thick and chunky: Suncrisp and Melrose

If you're not in the mood for cooking this weekend, several local restaurants are featuring our apples and cider on their fall menu. We definitely recommend the apple cider drinks, you just can't go wrong! We enjoyed the Apple Sidecar at the Winds Cafe this past week, yum! Here's a list of restaurants where you can find our apples and cider on the menu:

Meadowlark Restaurant (Dayton)

Sunrise Cafe (Yellow Springs)

Winds Café (Yellow Springs

Seasons Bistro (Springfield)

Ellie's Restaurant & Bakery (Yellow Springs)

Greene Canteen (Yellow Springs)

Reza's Downtown (Dayton)

Lots of questions recently about when we will be shutting down for the season. Our last day will be Sunday, December 22, 2019. We will still have apples and be pressing cider up until that point. We are open seasonally June through December.

Fresh apple cider is a must for your Halloween parties! Swing by this weekend we're open Weekdays 10am - 7pm, Saturdays 9am - 7pm, Sunday 11am - 5pm.
