Crop Report: Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

Thanks for checking in this week! It's been a busy week at the orchard. Many of you will be happy to know that we started harvesting Melrose this week! Full list of apple varieties and produce available in our farm market to follow.

Here's a little more info about one of our favorite all-purpose apples, Melrose. Melrose is actually our state apple, OH! Its lack of visual perfection is quickly made up for with its unique and complex flavor. We love Melrose for just about everything. It's a great addition to pie and sauce.

If you're like us, you're starting to get that Goldrush itch. We hope to start picking next week, we'll keep you updated! Later apple varieties are excellent keepers and Goldrush is one of the best. Where most varieties will stay fresh for 3-5 months in cool storage, Goldrush will keep for about 7months.

To keep your apples as fresh and crisp as possible here's what we recommend. Keep apples in the crisper of your refrigerator with a damp paper towel, swap out the paper towel every five days or so.

Yellow Springs Street Fair is this Saturday. If you haven't been it's definitely worth checking out! Lots of great food and plenty of vendors, there's a little bit for everyone! For more info about this event visit http://www.yellowspringsohio.org/.

Our u-pick pumpkin patch is open 7 days a week during business hours. There are still plenty to choose from, it's time to start planning this year's Jack O' Lanterns. Our u-pick patch is just a short walk from our farm market, it's the perfect fall activity!

We make these Apple Butter Bars more than we would like to admit, so good! She uses honeycrisp apples, we recommend a blend of Suncrisp and Melrose. So many apple varieties to choose from this time of year!
