Crop Report: Fresh Picked Honeycrisp Apples!
Fresh picked Honeycrisp apples are now available in our Farm Market and we couldn't be more excited! We received our first delivery of mums today, fall is officially underway here at the orchard! Full list of produce available to follow.
Although autumn is quickly creeping up on us we still have several weeks of summer produce to go! We just can't get enough sweet corn this season! It's been so tasty.
Everything has been a touch behind this year due to a late spring but we finally have a great selection of peppers. Grab a box of tomato seconds and a mix of hot peppers for the perfect summertime salsa. We also highly recommend peach and corn salsa. Recipes below.
Two fresh apple picks to look for this weekend are Zestar & Honeycrisp. Here's a little info about these great early varieties.
Zestar is crisp and juicy! It's flavor is zesty with a hint of brown sugar. They are a delicious eating apple! The brown sugar overtone makes it an interesting addition to baked goods and sauces. They are decent keeper and can last several weeks in cool storage. We recommend all apples are kept in the refrigerator at home.
There are very few people who don't already know about Honeycrisp. SUCH a fantastic eating apple. They are so crisp, sweet and juicy! Honeycrisp isn't always out top recommendation for baking or cooking but if you like intense sweetness, it's the way to go. For us, the first bite of a Honeycrisp marks the start of fall!
For those interested in making applesauce, we have Ginger Gold apples available by the half bushel. Ginger Gold make an excellent early applesauce.
Here's a little inspiration from Halfbaked Harvest to spice up your weekend, Peach Brie Pastry Tarts. We're always looking for new ways to use peaches and this pastry is super tasty. Link to recipe below.
