Crop Report: Crisp Air, Crisp Apples

Fall weather is back and apple season is in full swing! This crisp air brings in another favorite variety, Suncrisp. We have lots of "crisp" apples in our farm market this week. A new variety to us, Crimson Crisp, has definitely hit our top five. We are loving this apple! Super crisp and full of flavor.

La Pampa grill will be here on Friday cooking up some delicious wood-fired food! Grab a bite to eat after hunting for the perfect pumpkin in our u-pick patch. It's going to be a great weekend for pumpkin carving, hot apple cider, and bonfires!

It's apple pie season and our pie mix is back! For pies, and baking in general, we recommend a mix of apples to create a more complex flavor. We've created a mix of our favorite pie apples available in peck bags.

This Saturday is Street Fair in Yellow Springs. If you've never been it's definitely one to check off the bucket list! Lots of great local artists, live music, and delicious food.

Varieties to look for this weekend:

This weekend we will be working on harvesting Fuji and Winesap. Here's a little info about these varieties:

Winesap: One of the very first apple varieties, this legend is a favorite for all things! Winesap is sweetly tart with a winy aftertaste. It is an excellent all-purpose apple (we add it to our pie mix).

Late Fuji: Fuji has a dense, crisp, and sweetly tart flesh. Fuji is known to actually increase in flavor when held in long-term storage. It is excellent for eating out of hand, salads, and making into applesauce.

Goldrush (yay!!), Pink Lady, Granny Smith

Apple picking this weekend:

When? Saturday (9am-6pm) & Sunday (11am-4pm)

Varieties? Suncrisp and Melrose. Both are excellent all-purpose apples.
