Orchard Update
Hey everyone! Thanks for checking in!
We've been bundling up this week for all of our orchard activities..is it winter already?? Not sure if we are ready for the cold weather yet but it definitely has us thinking about all of our winter favorites. Cue fireplaces, cozy sweaters, hearty soup, and hot chocolate. Psst, If you haven't tried any of our Cooke Tavern Soup mixes yet, now is the time! So delish and super easy to make, great for Sunday dinners!
We still have lots of delicious apples available in our farm market. A list of varieties you will find this weekend to follow. We are still working to pick all of the Goldrush. We had an amazing crop this year..yay!! Goldrush, if this is a new variety for you, is an excellent keeper. They can last up to 8 months in cool storage. We recommend storing apples in the refrigerator to keep them at the highest quality.
Many of our customers have been making apple sauce and butter. The varieties available now are great for all things cooking and baking. We recommend using a mix of apples. Ask us about our favorites next time you're in!
Goldrush has now been introduced to our apple cider blend. If you're a follower of our cider, you'll know that Goldrush adds excellent flavor. Late season varieties are some of the best apples for cider.
We're channeling our inner bartender this weekend to make an old fashioned with homemade apple butter (store bought works too, we carry an excellent apple butter by Dutch Country Kettles). This cocktail is sure to warm you up on these chilly days. (Recipe courtesy of Half Baked Harvest Cooking Blog)
