Crop Report: Honeycrisp Apples

Thanks for checking in this week! Our farm market is full of delicious locally grown produce. Be sure to stop by this weekend for all of your summer and early fall favorites. Full list of produce available to follow.

It's been a busy week around the farm. This week we have been picking blackberries and all sorts of squash. New squash varieties to look for in our farm market this weekend are Spaghetti, Acorn and Buttercup squash. We love spaghetti squash as a healthy pasta alternative!

We are so excited to have apples again! This first taste of fall has been fantastic. We have plenty of Honeycrisp, it's just the beginning for this apple favorite! Look for some of our early varieties early September.

If you're feeling ambitious this weekend, it's time to start canning! We have plenty of canning tomatoes available in quantities of 10 and 25 pounds. You'll thank yourself when you crack a jar of locally grown tomatoes in February!

As excited as we are about apples we can't forget our summer favorite, peaches. We will have peaches until at least Labor Day weekend. The variety right now is Loring. If you haven't already, be sure to can and/or freeze these yummy peaches so you can enjoy them all winter long!

We are very disappointed to announce that we have decided to cancel u-pick apples this year. We will still have plenty of our apples available in our farm market. We will update you on all of your favorite varieties as they are ready to harvest.

Here's a little more info on why we will not be doing u-pick this fall. As a result of the tornado and other extreme weather that came through the area Memorial Day weekend our apples have significant hail damage. For that reason, this year our team will be picking the apples to ensure that both trees and apples are protected. It goes to show how quickly things can change, our crop was looking excellent before the hail damage.

As we all know, these sort of weather events are rare. Our hearts go out to anyone else who was effected by the Memorial Day Tornadoes. We are optimistic for better weather next growing season and that we will be able to have u-pick apples next year. Fingers crossed for a great 2020 season!

Zucchini has been growing like crazy! Here are a couple recipes to highlight this fresh picked summer squash. Healthy, guilt free and delicious! Spicy Pesto and Cheese Stuffed Involtini by Halfbaked Harvest and Zucchini Quesadillas by Smitten Kitchen, YUM! Links below.
