Crop Report: Hot Apple Cider & Cozy Autumn Meals

Thanks for checking in! As the cold weather moves in, things start to slow down for us a bit at the orchard. We love the Fall rush but we're happy to have these more mellow winter like days to catch our breath. There are still plenty of apples available in our Farm Market and we continue to press apple cider. Full list of apple varieties available to follow.

We know a lot of you have already started your winter/spring stockpile of Goldrush but for those of you who haven't there's still plenty of time. Our last day of our 2019 season is Sunday, December 22nd. We will still have apples and cider available up until then. We open back up with produce June 2020.

It's crazy to think that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. That means it's time to start planning your pie making! At least three pies are always required at our family Thanksgivings, apple, pumpkin and pecan. Sometimes we get a little crazy and even throw in an apple pumpkin pie. Sounds a little odd but it's delicious! Frankly you just can't go wrong when it comes to fall desserts and appropriately our family adds apples to just about anything!

For apple pie we recommend a blend of apples. Right now our apple pie favorties are, Suncrisp, Ida Red, Goldrush, Melrose and Jonagold. These varieties are great for any type of baking.

We still have frozen blueberries and cherries available. They're great for pies, desserts and smoothies!

These winter-like nights have us craving cozy comfort food. We've been loving all the different varieties of Winter Squash especially Spaghetti Squash. It's super simple to make and a healthy alternative for our favorite pasta dishes.

Roasted Garlic Spaghetti Squash Lasagna Boats are a great weekday meal. Another simple and cozy meal from Halfbaked Harvest is Cider Braised Beef Stew with Rosemary Polenta. If there's a cozy autumn meal you need to make, this is the one! Our apple cider adds in the perfect touch of flavor.

When it comes to desserts we're always looking for something quick and simple. Smitten Kitchen's Apple Slab Pie and Halfbaked Harvest's Double the Strusel Apple Butter Bars are to die for! They're also easy to make so it's a win, win! Use a few different apple varieties and the flavor will be out of this world!

Some of our favorites for these desserts: Suncrisp, Melrose, Goldrush, Ida Red, and Jonagold
