Crop Report: Happy Halloween!

Thanks for checking in this week! We continued to harvest Goldrush this week as the weather permitted. All the rain that missed us in September and early October finally caught up! We're looking forward to some more sunny days to come as we harvest other late season varieties like Pink Lady and Ida Red. Look for these in our Farm Market in the next coming weeks! Full list of apple varieties and produce available in our Farm Market to follow.

September and October have gone by in the blink of an eye for us! Harvesting is starting to slow down a little and we are finally catching our breath after a busy fall.

Lots of apple varieties available in our Farm Market as we head into the weekend. This is the best time of the season for apple butter and sauce makers! We always recommend a blend when cooking or baking. Here are some of our top choices for cooking and baking right now.

  • Sauce or Butter: Cortland, Macoun, McIntosh, Jonagold, Mutsu

  • Baking: Melrose, Suncrisp, Granny Smith, Goldrush

Our cider blend is always changing as new varieties are harvested throughout the season. The current blend is one of our favorites. Lots of complexity comes with the addition of Goldrush and Winesap. Homebrewers, our mid-season blend is one of the best for hard cider! We will continue to press cider twice a week up until we close for the season at the end of December.

It wouldn't be fall in Ohio without a few chilly rainy days. Soup has been on our menu all week. We had a great crop of Butternut squash this year and it's one of our favorites for fall flavor. This Butternut squash soup is perfect for cozy autumn nights by the fire. Link to recipe below.

No Halloween is complete without a tasty cocktail! We're excited to try this Halloween themed drink from Halfbaked Harvest, Nightmare on Bourbon Street. We're big bourbon people and mixing it with our apple cider is perfection!

We hope you all have a great Halloween weekend! We will be open normal hours this weekend. Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. Next week starting Monday, November 2nd we will shift our weekday closing time to 5pm.
