Crop Report: It's Applesauce Time!
Thanks for checking in this week! We have been loving these beautiful days. After a rainy previous week it's given us the chance to catch up on harvest and other things around the farm. Full list of apple varieties and produce available in our Farm Market to follow.
Here's a little info about this week's pick, Idared:
Derived from Jonathan, Idared is excellent for baking and cooking. Like Jonathan, it is known to hold up well when baking pies or making applesauce.
Its crisp, firm flesh makes it a good keeper.

Many of you have started your sauce and butter making. We are at peak season for some of the best cooking varieties. We love to hear about your annual applesauce and apple butter making! So many great traditions! If you're new to the game just ask when you stop in and we'll point you in the right direction. There are so many varieties to choose from and each blend makes a deliciously unique sauce!
Apples are also available in larger quantities. Ask about bushels and half bushels when you stop in!
Weekend desserts are always a good idea! Ohio native Christian Tosi is one of our favorite pastry chefs. This recipe for Apple Pie Bars is nothing short of amazing! We love the simplicity and burst of apple flavor! We recommend a mix of Idared, Melrose and Goldrush. Link to recipe below.
We have an abundance of acorn squash this season. This recipe for Maple Roasted Acorn Squash is a great side for fall dinners! The combination of acorn squash and Ohio maple syrup is so delicious! Link to recipe below.
It's going to be a great weekend for a hike in Yellow Springs! John Bryan and Glen Helen are great stops for an afternoon walk. Stop by and see us for some cider and fresh picked apples!
